Telefonica SA. is seeking growth in Italy and Germany following the appointment yesterday of former spokesperson for Spain's conservative Popular Party (PP) Eduardo Zaplana to the role of European delegate, according to Spanish press.

Newspapers noted that Zaplana is a close friend of Italy's Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, and also has ties with representatives from the conservative governments in Germany and France. tfn.europemadrid@thomson.com
