With the Beijing Olympics set to begin soon, Taiwan LED players are receiving rush orders from system providers in China that are behind in producing LED-based devices such as outdoor billboards and lighting applications, according to market sources.
While the sources noted that Taiwan LED chipmaker Epistar is expected to benefit from the rush orders for high-power LEDs, the company indicated that due to time constraints, it is uncertain whether it will be able to fully take advantage of the demand for rush orders in July.
However, demand for high-power LEDs looks good in the second half of the year, with the company noting applications such as garden lighting, office lighting and other special lighting and shipments should increase 40-50% sequentially in the third quarter.
